Pune: The Freemasons’ Hall in the Camp area was opened to the public today. Various people from different walks of life took advantage of the “Open House” event. Masonic lodges are organizations of men who believe in a supreme being and seek self-improvement through introspection. The members of The Leslie Wilson Lodge provided excellent guidance on various aspects of Freemasonry. This was followed by a question-and-answer session, where attendees’ queries regarding Freemasonry were clarified.
The event was organized by The Leslie Wilson Lodge No. 4480 under the United Grand Lodge of England. During the event, a free eye check-up camp was also held, and the public made good use of it.
Freemasonry has existed for thousands of years, with written records available for over 500 years. Many U.S. Presidents, royals, and world-renowned figures such as George Washington, Mozart, Sir Winston Churchill, and Mark Twain were Freemasons. In India, many prominent entrepreneurs, businesspeople, directors, celebrities from the film industry, doctors, lawyers, and high-ranking officials are also part of this community. Notable Indian Freemasons include Swami Vivekananda, Firozshah Mehta, Pandit Motilal Nehru, Sir Dorabji Jamshedji Tata, Dr. C. Rajagopalachari, Sir Sultan Mohammad Shah Aga Khan, Maharaja Duleep Singh, Maharaja Jivajirao Scindia, actor David Abraham, cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, and many others.
