Southern Command celebrates 78th Independence Day with grandeur and patriotic fervour

Pune, : HQ Southern Command, Pune commemorated the 78th Independence Day with a series of events highlighting the patriotic spirit, rich heritage of the nation and valour of its Soldiers. Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, Ati Vishist Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, along with all ranks and veterans paid homage to the brave hearts in a solemn wreathlaying ceremony at the Command War Memorial.

The 78th Independence Day celebration was marked by zealous display of the National Flag as part of ‘Har Ghar Tiranga ’ signifying national unity and pride.

To mark the event, the Southern Command launched a tree Plantation Drive under the Govt Flagship theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’.The Army Commander and all ranks planted saplings in Pune Cantonment embodying the commitment of the Indian Army towards a greener Earth. More than one lakh plants of varied types including fruit bearing and medicinal plants were planted by the Army units, formations and establishments across Southern Command.

The celebrations culminated with a ‘Flagging In’ ceremony of a Motorcycle expedition which commenced on Kargil Vijay Diwas from Colaba, Mumbai. The expedition covered a distance of 5500km moving across various states from Mumbai to Kargil and onwards to Pune spreading the message of of patriotism and spirit of unity.
